Diversity: Part of Our Healing Mission

We made a vigilant and successful effort to retain the diversity of ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, religion, and other important aspects of diversity found among the original 28 singers. We advertise in multiple media and settings, including community bulletin boards, press, and workplace. We also post fliers in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Haitian Creole, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil and Yiddish in diverse NYC metro neighborhoods. Since members pick and arrange the songs we perform, our diverse membership assures diverse music. For example, our music repertoire has included R&B, Pop, Classical, Latino, Zambian a cappella, Indian Classical/Fusion, Haitian, Japanese Pop, Tamil Folk, Jewish a cappella, American Folk, Broadway Show Tunes, Reggae, and many other genres or styles. We have sung in too many languages to count (over 15 different languages at this point).

• Our membership has included singers from various racial and ethnic groups, as well as many nationalities, including African American, Arabic, Argentinian, Brazilian, Haitian, Hispanic, Indian, Jamaican, Japanese, Korean, Multiracial, Panamanian, Puerto Rican, Russian, Jewish, Taiwanese, Turkish, and White.
• We have had members from all over the world.
• We speak lots of different languages, which is how we're able to sing in so many.
• Our choir is made up of people of many faiths and religions. Members have come from many religious backgrounds, including: Atheist, Christian, Jain, Jewish, Muslim, Spiritual, Unitarian, Universal, Yoga-Bhagavad Gita, and Yoruba-based spiritual traditions, as well as people who have no specific religion or faith.
• Our membership includes people from the heterosexual community and the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning) communities. We are parents, singles, domestic partners, spouses, and couples.
• Our age range is from under 21 to 50+.
• Members currently reside all over the New York metropolitan area.
• We are professionals and students from a wide range of backgrounds. We also come from a variety of musical backgrounds, including choirs, bands, Indian Classical ensembles, a cappella groups, cabaret singing, and more...
